Cameron, weapons dealer turns peace maker

As David Cameron completes his tour of the Middle East, flogging billions of dollars worth of British weapons for repression and mass destruction to Arab dictators, the British Prime Minister took absurdity and deception to new heights - by appointing himself as an interlocutor for “peaceful transition” in Syria.British Prime Minister David Cameron (L) receiving the King Abdul Aziz medal from Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz during a meeting in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah on November 6, 2012
In his Wednesday visit to Jordan’s King Abdullah, Cameron planned to pose for photo-opportunities at refugee camps for thousands of Syrians displaced from their country by violence - violence that has been fomented and fuelled by Britain and its Western and Arab allies over the past 19 months.
The cruel irony of that: the British statesman grimacing with humanitarian concern for the latest wave of refugees to have descended on Jordan. Note, “the latest wave of refugees”, because recall that millions of refugees have already been subsisting in Jordan for over six decades, since 1948, when droves of Palestinians were terrorized from their homeland after Cameron’s predecessors oversaw the treacherous policy of British-assisted Zionist aggression to set up the entity of Israel.
This week, Britain’s chief weapons dealer - Cameron - burnished his newfound credentials as peace interlocutor, with the surprise announcement that he could arrange “safe passage” for Syrian President Bashar Al Assad from his country if the latter decided to relinquish power.
Speaking in Saudi Arabia, ahead of his visit to Jordan, Cameron was asked by reporters for his reaction if President Assad agreed to exile. The British prime minister replied: “Done. Anything, anything to get that man out of the country and to have a safe transition in Syria.”
Cameron added: “I am certainly not offering him [Assad] an exit plan to Britain, but if wants to leave, he could leave, that could be arranged.”
Well, that’s jolly expedient of Mr. Cameron. For nearly two years, the British government, along with Washington and Paris, has been denouncing Assad as a “brutal dictator” who is “slaughtering his own people”.
Seconds after Cameron offered safe passage to Assad, he went on to say: “This is an appalling slaughter that is taking place in our world today - 40,000 [sic] lives lost already and you can see, on your television screens, night after night, helicopters, aeroplanes belonging to the Assad regime pounding his own country and murdering his own people.”
Aside from the facts that Syria is a sovereign country whose president has a popular mandate and whose armed forces are fulfilling their legal right to defend the territory and its people, and aside from the fact that the slaughter that seems to so upset Cameron is largely being perpetrated by foreign armed mercenaries supported by Britain, the US and France and their regional allies, it is very telling that the British prime minister is now offering exile to President Assad, whom Cameron asserts to be a mass murderer.
