Face The Truth: Facebook Acquires ’Largest, Most Accurate’ Facial Recognition Software
Facebook has now acquired a software start-up that specializes in recognizing faces in digital images.
Working with Facebook directly, Face.com, "The world’s largest and most accurate face recognition platform", will be used to identify photos on the social network giant. The software will be able to distinguish, search, and filter photos containing friends, celebrities, or other targets.Face.com released a statement:
"By [...] joining their team, we’ll have more opportunities to build amazing products that will be employed by consumers – that’s all we’ve ever wanted to do."
"Like our friends at Facebook, we think that mobile is a critical part of people’s lives as they both create and consume content, and share content with their social graph.".
This new acquisition comes after Facebook paid $1 billion for the photo-sharing service Instagram.
