First Trans Man Gives Birth in Finland
A man has given birth to a child presumably for the first time in the history of Finland, reports Lännen Media.
A Finnish miracle! A man gives birth! A man who has a vagina, ovaries, uterus and XX chromosomes. https://t.co/Bil5qqT8WC

The roughly 30-year-old trans man had begun the gender re-assignment process some ten years ago but decided to temporarily interrupt his hormone therapy in order to try having a child with his partner, according to the joint media venture established by a dozen regional newspapers in 2012.
“The baby weighs almost four kilos and is 53 centimetres tall,” the proud father told Lännen Media on Wednesday.
The father also revealed that he had no complications during pregnancy, even though he had been told that getting pregnant would likely be impossible. The only problems, he added, were related to paperwork as applying for the maternity allowance with a male social security number was impossible through the online service of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela).
The Finnish trans act stipulates that a person who has undergone gender re-assignment must be sterilised by hormone therapy before their gender identity is updated on official government records. The trans man had received a male social security number roughly three years ago, writes Lännen Media.
Human rights organisations have urged the country to stop the forced sterilisations of transgender people.
