Government’s 9/11 Lies Continue To Affect People’s Health
The federal government’s lies over the safety of toxic air at ground zero in the wake of the 9/11 attacks still continue to take their toll on the health of workers and residents caught up in the aftermath.
A report from the AP reveals that researchers have discovered that a number of young law enforcement officers who participated in the rescue and cleanup operation have developed an immune system cancer.
From a sample of 28,252 emergency responders, eight people under the age of 45 were found to be suffering from multiple myeloma. That figure raises an alarm due to the fact that normally only one case of the disease would be expected in that age group.
The study, conducted by health experts of the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, was published in this month’s Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
The coordinating doctors have warned that people who worked at ground zero in lower Manhattan should continue to have their health monitored.
Mount Sinai has consistently been at the forefront of research into the health effects of the 2001 attacks. A 2007 study by the Medical Center revealed that out of 70,000 participants, 85 percent are suffering some kind of respiratory problem.
Officials at New York City’s health department responded by declaring that this study, along with every other study conducted since 2001 does not definitively indicate any link between cancer and dust from the collapse of the twin towers, despite the fact that hundreds are known to have developed cancer after working on rescue and recovery efforts.
The news comes on the back of another study, released last week by the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, revealing that in 2006-2007, 13.5% of people exposed to the dust developed asthma compared with 8.4% who had no dust cloud exposure.
The study, conducted by the health department and the federal Centers for Disease Control and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, also found elevated levels of post-traumatic stress disorder among over 46,000 people who were surveyed in 2006-2007. This represents an increase of 5% on 2003/04 levels.
We have previously extensively reported on the fact that the EPA knowingly gave misleading information to residents and workers regarding the air quality in the aftermath of the attacks and how a cover up, which leads to officials at the very top, has ensued.
The heroes of 9/11 have been shunned by a government that still refuses cover the costs of healthcare for the vast majority of the stricken because to do so would be an admission of culpability.
