National Press Club cancels Alt Right press conference planned in their 'Free Speech Lounge'

By |

On Friday, September 9, The National Policy Institute was scheduled to hold a press conference at The National Press Club in Washington, DC. The press conference was to be a chance for prolific Alt Right figures – namely, Jared Taylor, Richard Spencer, and Peter Brimelow – to offer some information to the public on this nascent movement.

However, on Wednesday morning, The National Press Club cancelled the event; this makes NPI the first organization to have been shut down by NPC in its 108 year history.

When asked why, NPC cited "potential security threats." NPI offered to pay for more security; NPC, unfortunately, remained uninterested.

The reality of the situation, of course, is that NPC's leadership is afraid of hosting a controversial press conference.

Ironically, on the same day that NPC cancelled this conference, its website published an article in which the author praised Trump ending his blacklist of certain media organizations. In the article, the author writes that "...the NPC works to promote freedom of expression."

Further ironic is the fact that the ill-fated Alt Right conference was to be held in the NPC's "First Amendment Lounge." While it is undeniably within NPC's legal right to refuse service to whomever it feels necessary, censoring controversial figures and organizations while simulateneously promoting "freedom of expression" is nothing short of hypocritical.

Below is a copy of the contract signed between The National Press Club and The National Policy Insitute.

As of now, work is being done to relocate the conference elsewhere.

If you find this half as irritating as I do, be sure to take to Twitter and hop on the hashtag #NationalPressCensors.

Here, I'll even help you get started.

Even better, you can call The National Press Club and give them a hard time. Their number is 202-662-7500.

The National Press Conference cancelled this event because they figured that shutting it down would create less of a headache than allowing it to happen.

Let's prove them wrong.
