New York Scraps Literacy Test for Teachers After It Weeds out Minorities
Equality is under attack yet again – shut it down!
New York state is poised to scrap a literacy test for people trying to become teachers, in part because an outsized percentage of black and Hispanic candidates were failing.
The state Board of Regents on Monday is expected to adopt the recommendation of a task force to eliminate the exam, known as the Academic Literacy Skills Test.
In a multiracial society, there will be inequality in group outcomes. It’s just a fact of life.
And in a true meritocracy, we would be concerned with equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.
However, we do not live in a true meritocracy.
Critics of the exam said it is redundant and a poor predictor of who will succeed as a teacher.
Backers of the test say eliminating it could put weak teachers in classrooms.
Really?
While I’m no expert in the field of education, it seems perfectly reasonable to suggest that illiteracy may, in fact, be a sign that someone is unfit to be a teacher.
Just 46 percent of Hispanic and 41 percent of black test takers passed it on the first try, compared with 64 percent of white candidates.
The test was among four assessments for prospective teachers introduced in the 2013-2014 school year.
Look at that! The differing rates of group success correspond with each group’s average IQ. It’s almost as if, at a group level, this expert-approved psychometric test is a valid predictor of success in the Western world.
By now, it’s painfully obvious that science only matters to the Left when it can be used to attack conservatives, Christians, or anyone else who stands in the way of their Cultural Marxist utopia.
