Obama Vows To Open Border Floodgates With Executive Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants

McConnell: President is "Waving a red flag in front of a bull"

Despite the “shellacking” of Democrats at the hands of the GOP in this week’s mid-terms, Obama has promised to press ahead with plans for immigration reform, including an executive order which many fear will amount to all out amnesty.

“Before the end of the year, we’re going to take whatever lawful actions that I can take,” Obama said. “What I’m not going to do is just wait. I think it’s fair to say I’ve shown a lot of patience and tried to work on a bipartisan basis as much as possible.”

Sounding more like a mafia don than a President, Obama also promised that if Congress falls into line and passes an immigration law that pleases him, the executive overreach will magically “go away.”

“I think that the best way, if folks are serious about getting immigration reform done, is going ahead and passing a bill and getting it to my desk. And then the executive actions that I take go away.” Obama said.

“They’re superseded by the law that is passed. And I will engage any member of Congress who’s interested in this in how we can shape legislation that will be a significant improvement over the existing system.” he added, suggesting that immigration reform should be thrashed out during the post-election lame-duck session.

Responding to the comments, incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that Obama’s promises would only antagonize Republicans.

“It’s like waving a red flag in front of a bull to say, ‘If you guys don’t do what I want, I’m going to do it on my own,’” McConnell said Wednesday in Louisville, declaring that if Obama presses ahead with the plan, “I think it poisons the well” for legislative action.

In addition to promising to go ahead with executive action, Obama’s press secretary has also said that Obama will not hesitate to use the power of veto over any legislation he does not like.

“The president does have a pen on his desk and I’m confident that he’ll be in a position where he’ll have to veto some legislation where Democrats and Republicans are not able to find some common ground,” Josh Earnest said on MSNBC.

“Over the past six years, Republicans have considered it to be in their clear political self interest to try to block every single thing that the president supports,” he said, adding “Maybe now they will see it as in their interest to really move on common ground.”

In response to the amnesty threat, six GOP Senators penned a letter to outgoing Majority Leader Harry Reid this week, asking him to block any unilateral amnesty attempt by Obama.

“We write to express our alarm with President Obama’s announced intention to take unilateral executive action by the end of this year to lawlessly grant amnesty to immigrants who have entered the country illegally,” reads the letter sent Wednesday by Sens. Ted Cruz, Mike Crapo, Mike Lee, Pat Roberts, Jeff Sessions, and David Vitter.

The letter states that any amnesty attempt via executive order would violate the Constitution and be considered “lawless”.

“Should you decline to defend the Senate and the Constitution from executive overreach, the undersigned Senators will use all procedural means necessary to return the Senate’s focus during the lame duck session to resolving the constitutional crisis created by President Obama’s lawless amnesty,” the letter concludes.
