Opt-in school food programs are often a boon to society, providing nourishment to children who otherwise aren’t getting it at home due to family/economic situations. Children cannot function properly or learn effectively when they’re constantly hungry. It’s no secret that the obesity problem in western nations is due in part to poor health education, poor food choices, and easily available junk food.
On the other hand, BANNING food from home altogether and forcing children to eat only as school administers see fit is taking the choice and control away from parents and suggesting that parents *don’t* know best. It erases cultural foods and individualism and imposes a ’one food fits all’ that smacks of communism. This ban may be part of a slippery slope where freedoms are stripped away one at a time under the guise of shaping a ’better’ society.
