Stockholm Crash: Multiple Injuries as Driver Ploughs Vehicle into Police Car
A Driver has deliberately ploughed his van into a police car this afternoon, injuring multiple people, before trying to flee the scene near Stockholm.
The incident happened in Alby, in Botkyrka municipality south of the Swedish capital at around 4.20pm local time.
Local media reported the driver had deliberately driven straight into the police car before trying to escape.
At least three officers were among those injured in the carnage.
Police said they had arrested one man following the incident on suspicion of attempted murder but another may still be on the loose.
It is unclear if the incident is terror-related.
Police said the crash took place after officers tried to stop the van.
Carina Skagerlind from Stockholm Police said: “It's very early in the investigation.
“After trying to stop a car a collision occurred between that car and a police car.
“We have caught a person and we are still at the scene."
He said the officers needed hospital treatment but their condition was not thought to be life-threatening.
Photos from the scene showed a white van embedded in a police car.
One of its doors is flung open at the side of the snowy road.
A police helicopter was buzzing overhead as the road was cordoned off.
