Eel-Like Fish Falling From Sky In Alaska City

An ugly eel-like fish has been falling out of the sky this past week in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that an Arctic lamprey - which is a foot-long eel-like fish with no jaw - fell from the sky four times.
One of the lampreys was found in a Value Village store parking lot, while another one landed on a resident’s lawn.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game posted on its Facebook page that gulls are more than likely to blame for the falling lamprey.
“Gulls are picking them out of the Chena River with their bills and then dropping the squirming critters while in flight,” the department’s Facebook page states. “Arctic lampreys spawn in the Chena River, and live in the mud underwater as juveniles for several years. However, many lifelong Alaskans have never seen one of these fascinating fish up close because their body shape and feeding habits make them difficult to catch.”
The lampreys die soon after spawning.
