September 19, 2011 — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck the Ontario-Quebec border region Sunday afternoon. It was felt in Ottawa and Montreal.

A minor earthquake struck Quebec Sunday

Earthquakes Canada said the quake was centred in Buckingham, Quebec, 44 km east of Ottawa. It struck at a depth of 5 km.
Almost instantly, people took to social media platforms to report shaking in Montreal, Ottawa and beyond.
Kandita Hyderman said she felt and heard the rumbling at the airport in Ottawa and thought at first it was a low-flying plane.
Another Ottawa resident, Lindsay Thompson, said she felt her chair, desk and floor shaking.
“It sounded like a big, heavy truck going by,” she said.
No damages or injuries were immediately reported.
Canada has seen its fair share of moderate earthquakes recently. Two quakes struck Vancouver Island within a week of each other this month. And in August, a quake that struck Virginia was felt as far away as Ontario.
