Thomas Jefferson Statue Defaced at University of Virginia
So much for the statue-tolerant Left!
University of Virginia police are investigating the vandalism of the Jefferson statue that resides on the north side of UVa’s Rotunda.
Authorities said they received a report about the vandalism at 3:20 a.m. Sunday. Police would not confirm the investigation until Thursday morning.
The statue appeared to have been splashed with red paint. University workers were spotted cleaning the statue on Sunday morning.
This act of vandalism was, without doubt, done in retaliation to recent events in Charlottesville – in particular, the Friday night torchlit march that took place on the UVA campus.
However, we must keep in mind that this event merely gave the Left an excuse to act; the desire to dismantle symbols of Western civilization has, of course, simmered beneath the surface for decades.
Let’s be honest here: the average simpleton defacing monuments – Confederate or not – is likely too historically illiterate to discern between Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, and Abraham Lincoln. While some might have a special reserve of hate set aside for Confederate heroes, I would argue that most are simply reacting vitriolically to symbols of Western civilization.
The defacing of Jefferson’s statue is not an isolated incident. Since Unite the Right, we’ve seen a Confederate statue toppled in North Carolina, the Lincoln Memorial vandalized, and, most shocking of all, a failed attempt to blow up a Confederate statue in Texas.
The Left is overplaying its hand, though. The majority of Americans, thankfully, oppose the removal of Confederate statues from public places; as such, the Left is clearly continuing to alienate itself from the masses and further radicalize those on the Right.
This only bodes well for the Alt-Right – a movement which, it should be emphasized, was largely born due to the lunacy Black Lives Matter exhibited after the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown.
So while I lament the damage done to our monuments, I would like to sincerely thank the Left for ensuring the future of our movement.
