A solar-powered pyramid on wheels

If the pharaohs of old ever decided to build Popemobiles for themselves, I imagine they'd look something like this. What you're looking at is the Dreamcar 123, described by inventor Greg Zanis (pictured above) as a vehicle for the future that's as safe as the cars used in Nascar. Someday, he'd like to see his solar-powered pyramid travel over thousands of miles at speeds of hundreds of miles per hour, though his current prototype's speed is measured by the dozen.

Zanis is big on safety, and as such his car is stuffed with "pre-inflated airbags," a top-mounted yellow parking light for visibility, and headlights and brakelights where you'd expect them. The dream doesn't end with the car, either — to help the pyramid stay ready to roll, Zanis would like to see special garages powered by a mix of renewable energy sources, from wind to solar.

Will his car ever take over the road? Probably not — especially with plug-in hybrids right around the corner. It's got a groovy retro-futurists feel, though, and we're down with that.
