Dear Scared Nonwhite People

(Note: This is a response to Greg Simms Jr’s “Dear Scared White People.”)
I recently had the misfortune of reading your piece in JET titled “Dear Scared White People.” Its overall thrust – that white people are voting for Donald Trump because they are irrationally fearful – is both common and vapid. My biggest objection is that you mistake caution for fear. White people – or any people, for that matter – needn’t be “afraid” of something undesirable to avoid it. In fact, avoiding such an undesirable situation is indeed the only rational option, but whenever white people advocate for something in their ethnic interests, they are accused of acting out of fear. Why is this only purported to be the case with whites? Nevertheless, white Americans ought to be concerned with what’s happening in this country.
You begin by asserting that you are not, in fact, a racist. Putting aside the obvious – that a white person writing a similar article to black people would undoubtedly be labeled as such – let us examine the evidence for your alleged racial indifference. You write, “My longtime girlfriend is white. My niece is bi-racial. I have a diverse collection of friends and family. I’m not anti-white or Caucasian-averse.” This took me by surprise, for a white person making this very same argument would be mocked for doing so. In fact, I’ve heard nonwhites mock this line of reasoning on a number of occasions. Apparently people of color have no qualms with criticizing this stance and employing it themselves when beneficial.
You write that hip-hop culture has become the dominant culture of American youth. This is probably true to a certain extent, but white Americans should be alarmed. Black/hip-hop culture glorifies materialism, unrestrained lust/sexuality, violence, and substance abuse. As Plato noted, a healthy, well-run state maximizes virtue and minimizes vice. This ideal is sharply contrasted with our present society, in which the base is elevated above the spiritual and self-mastery is eschewed in favor of indulgence. Everything that once made western civilization magnificent, functional, and successful, such as family values, temperance, virtue, and so forth, has been disregarded or outright pathologized. It can be said that a civilization’s art reflects its state of being. If this is true, then the prevalence of black/hip-hop culture – replete with its degenerate “values” – is nothing more than the sign of a civilization in decline.
You also mention the “strong surge” of Latino culture that America has experienced during the past few decades. It’s true that Latinos have grown demographically; high fertility rates and unchecked immigration are to thank for this. While the growth of Latinos may delight you because it shifts the balance of power away from whites, there are a number of downsides to this that I do not think you are considering. For one, three-fourths of Latino households receive welfare (second only to blacks). Thus, a growing Latino population constitutes a greater drain on an already bloated welfare state, and a civilization cannot survive indefinitely with an ever-expanding, parasitic underclass. Furthermore, Latinos are victims of black violence at rates similar to whites: in violent interracial crime involving blacks and Latinos, blacks are the aggressors 82.5% of the time. Judging from these statistics, it is apparent that the black-Latino alliance is rather tenuous. And given that Latinos have significantly higher fertility rates than blacks, how do you think you will be treated if Latinos surpass whites as the dominant ethnic group in the United States? Besides, diversity and multiculturalism have already been proven to be disastrous for social cohesion.
The future that you are “zooming” toward is not one of innovation, beauty, economic prosperity, or virtue, but rather one of growing welfare dependence, crime, ethnic conflict, and decadence. If you’re imagining the future of America looking like a less white version of its 20th century splendour, you’re in for a rude awakening. It mustn't be forgotten that a country reflects its people; in other words, a country is its people. You cannot drastically alter a country’s racial, cultural, ethnic, and religious demographics and expect things to stay the same. And it’s painfully obvious that both blacks and Latinos, through their glorification of degeneracy and reliance on government handouts to survive, are either unable or unwilling to maintain Western civilization. If current demographic changes persist, it won’t just be whites that are left behind – it will be America as a whole.
The future you talk of in which “everyone has a seat at the new American table” will never come to pass, for whites cannot advocate for their interests without being labeled as racists, white supremacists, or Nazis. The controversy over Donald Trump’s salience is a perfect example of this, especially when one considers that his appeal to whites is implicit rather than explicit. Much of Donald Trump’s appeal isn’t even related to race: his foreign policy, stance on trade deals, tax plan, and lack of beholdenness to the wealthy donor class make him a desirable candidate. And in a more homogeneous society, we would have no trouble electing him. Unfortunately, however, that ship sailed in 1965.
You also make the laughable claim that “no person of color is actively looking to erase white culture (for lack of a better description) from this country’s historical continuum.” Nothing could be further from the truth! Virtually all people in history – white or otherwise – would be considered “racist” by today’s standards. Thus, it wouldn’t be too farfetched to consider a future in which all statues of the Founding Fathers, for example, are removed because they were “racists.” In fact, the erasure of white culture is an ongoing process, and recent activity on college campuses would suggest that many people of color don't particularly value white life. (Regardless of one’s opinions on free speech, it’s worth noting that a white person making similar claims about a minority would spark a public outroar.)
In conclusion, white people have every right to be alarmed at the state of the current zeitgeist. Ergo, they would certainly be wise to vote for Donald Trump. And doing so would be a logical move, not an irrational one motivated by fear, as you have suggested. The irony is that the liberals, mainstream conservatives, and nonwhites who claim that Trump’s supporters are fearful are the very same ones anxiously likening Trump to Hitler and outlining plans to flee the country if he is elected. I don’t particularly blame them; Trump’s widespread appeal, electrifying rallies, strong persona, and predominantly white voter base must seem rather intimidating to those endeavoring to dismantle white hegemony in America.
And in light of this frantic, anti-Trump frenzy, I cannot help but wonder who’s really afraid.
