Lethal Landslide: Over 2,000 people dead in Afghanistan disaster

"In Afghanistan, rescuers have abandoned the search for survivors of a massive landslide, and are focusing instead on recovering bodies. The International Organization for Migration says more than 2,000 people could be dead after hundreds of homes were buried by mud. The disaster happened in the remote province of Badakhshan. This mountainous region borders Tajikistan, China and Pakistan. The area’s remoteness has made it difficult for aid agencies to reach the affected village in Argo district."
"Officials in Afghanistan say they have given up hope of finding any more survivors after 2,100 people were killed following a landslide in the northeast of the country. More than 4,000 are homeless and all efforts are being made to help them."
