Police Chief Wants Drones to Patrol ’High Crime Areas’ (And Everywhere Else)

"St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson has called for the city’s high crime areas to be patrolled by unmanned surveillance drones within a year, in addition to using the technology to track suspicious vehicles." Source

If there was anyone who was waiting for the other shoe to drop, this is your cue to finally take these indications of a complete surveillance society seriously.

’Suspicious vehicles’? What constitutes suspicion? Driving? In a car? On a road?
Someone who looks at a cop the wrong way?

This request is a gross overstep, and a hallmark of a police controlled fascist state. For the police purposes, drones (when unarmed) are essentially flying CCTV cameras.
It can already be shown that CCTV cameras do NOT prevent crime, nor reduce crime.

Really though, how can one fault Police Chief Sam Dotson for wanting drones for his force when it’s been revealed that drones are already being used by the US government to spy on their own people without oversight or explanation? Attorney General Eric Holder also recently acknowledged that at least 3 citizens have been extra-judicially killed ’by accident’ by drones, and others, like a 16 year old American boy, on purpose.

The slippery slope of policing with drones is less slope and more sheer drop in this case.

Hopefully, sanity will reign and the request will be rejected.

Journalist Paul Joseph Watson notes:
Last year, the FAA rejected an application from the Ogden Police Department to fly an unmanned surveillance blimp at a height of just 400 feet over high crime areas of the city to watch for “suspicious activity,” but the request was rejected due to safety concerns. Source
